We were delighted to announce our 30th Birthday earlier in the year – what a milestone! Our 30 years in business is a testament to our guests and staff, past and present, who have supported us. Thank you to everyone!

Dr. Batuna Inducted to the International Scuba Divers Hall of Fame
This prestigious award serves as a reminder of our founding father’s passion for the ocean, commitment to preserving the natural beauty of North Sulawesi and providing opportunities for the local people. Dr. Batuna is sorely missed but this serves to honor his lifetime achievements.

New Deluxe Ocean View Bungalows at Murex Bangka
One of our biggest highlights of 2018 has been the construction of our new bungalows at Murex Bangka. Carrying out construction on a remote, tropical island is not an easy task, but we did it and our beautiful new bungalows are finished and we are taking bookings. The stunning bungalows offer views over the ocean, deluxe accommodation and large verandas with day beds – the perfect place to relax after a day of diving.

Going Solar Powered at Murex Bangka
Again, another huge project but with our 38 solar panels we are now able to deliver 24 hour electricity to the new bungalows. It’s important to us to conserve the natural environment of Bangka Island and this project is part of our ongoing commitment.

Bangka Coral Farm and Ocean Gardener Courses
These are wonderful new additions. Ocean Gardener courses teach divers how to identify different species of coral and to actually plant new corals on Bangka’s coral farm. We are looking forward to seeing the coral farm grow over the coming years.

10 New Dive and Snorkel Guides
We have 10 new dive guides who have undergone Murex’s extensive diving, rescue and marine biology training. Having additional Dive Guides means we are able to offer even more flexible diving and snorkeling options for guests. Welcoming new members to our team and giving more local people opportunities is always a pleasure – welcome to all!
Introduction of Black Water Diving
Black water diving is an exciting way to discover the creatures that come up from the deep. This new way of diving involves using lights from the surface to attract oceanic critters. We highly recommend this for anyone who has not tried it before – and the deep waters between Manado and Bunaken are the perfect location.
