Murex to the Rescue 2018
Every year our teams at Murex Manado and Murex Bangka are put through rigorous rescue training to ensure that their skills and knowledge are kept up to date when it comes to handling emergency situations. This year’s training was led once again by our PADI Instructor, Dimpy Jacobs who certainly put the teams through their paces!
At Murex Manado 14 member of staff including dive guides and office, lobby and resort staff undertook the training which covered responding to emergency medical situations, CPR and oxygen administration. This year’s “surprise” was the introduction of a speed test for correctly assembling an oxygen unit under pressure – all participants were equally impressive in their skills!
Our Manado Dive Guides then hit the water for skills practice and test scenarios which included dealing with panicking divers and unresponsive divers both underwater and at the surface. When dealing with an unresponsive diver underwater, participants had to safely surface the diver whilst maintaining an airway, deliver rescue breaths while transporting the victim back to the shore, remove the victim’s gear and then deliver effective CPR – it’s quite a work out. We were delighted to see all rescue scenarios completed successfully!
Bangka’s training took place over a further 2 days for dive guides, boat crew, compressor staff, office, resort and kitchen staff. The 15 strong team were put through the same skills tests and scenarios as those taught in Manado and they were equally impressive.
We are extremely proud of our safety record and the dedication of our teams to diver and guest safety both in the water and around our resorts. We believe we are one of the only operators in North Sulawesi to offer comprehensive annual rescue training in addition to marine biology and underwater photography training. Needless to say, we are confident that you will be in safe hands during your stay with us.
After the training at both resorts, Dimpy commented, “Everybody who participated did a great job and had a lot of fun even though the training is about serious issues. I am very proud of both teams and the commitment of Murex to ensuring that all guests are safe”.
Finally, a big “Thank You” to Dimpy for another awesome annual training! Safety First!
