PADI Open Water Diver Course North Sulawesi

Anyone who has learned to scuba dive will tell you: It is an incredible, life-changing experience. But how do you get started? What is the right course to take, and where should you learn? As a newcomer to the world of diving, it can be hard to know where to begin.

In this article, we will provide everything you need to know about PADI courses, so you can begin planning those all-important first steps on your journey to become a certified diver. Are you ready? Let’s dive in.

What is the PADI Open Water Diver Course, and why do I need it?

PADI (the Professional Association of Diving Instructors) is a worldwide dive training organization, with more than 30 million divers on its books. PADI courses are designed to be fun and informative, teaching you about the ocean and showing you how to stay safe in its waters.

After completing a PADI Open Water Diver course, you will receive a scuba qualification that never expires and is recognized all over the world. Better yet, it opens the door to a lifetime of adventures in the wild blue yonder.

What to Expect During the PADI Open Water Diver Course?

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the first level of diving certification. On this course, you will learn how to become a safe, competent, and confident diver, certified to explore depths of up to 18 meters (59 feet).

The course has three main components: Knowledge development, confined water dives, and open water dives. Let’s look at each of these steps in more detail.

What to Expect:

  • Knowledge Development: This is where you learn about the theory of diving. If you have limited time available, you can do this online, with PADI E-Learning, or in person at a PADI-registered dive resort, like Murex. Whichever path you choose, you’ll need to read the PADI Student Manual and watch a series of open water videos. After that, there are several quizzes and a final exam. The whole process takes around 4 days to complete.
  • Confined Water Dives: After learning the theory, it’s time to get practical. Working in a swimming pool with a trained instructor, you’ll learn all the basic diving skills and techniques you need to deal with any emergency situations that might arise. This enables you to become familiar with your equipment, and build your confidence in the water.
  • Open Water Dives: This is what it’s all about – taking the plunge and diving in the ocean! A PADI Open Water Diver course includes four ocean dives that help you take your skills to the next level. At Murex, the first two dives are on our Manado House Reef, which you can access by simply walking off the beach. On the final day, you will travel to Bunaken Marine Park, where you can dive on coral reefs alongside sea turtles, colorful schools of tropical fish, octopus, seahorses, and a range of other awe-inspiring marine life.

What comes next after I complete my PADI Open Water Diver Course?

Learning to dive is a process that never really stops – there’s always more to discover, and new ways to expand your skills. After completing your PADI Open Water Diver course, you can work up to PADI Advanced Open Water, learn to be a PADI Rescue Diver, and eventually become a certified divemaster with a PADI Divemaster Course.
